LARGE WOODY DEBRIS
The State of Montana continues to work with local jurisdictions impacted by the June 2022 flooding event in identifying and removing debris that is a threat to public health and safety or poses a threat to downstream infrastructure in future flood events.
While those efforts continue, the Large Woody Debris Fact Sheet discusses the benefits of leaving some types of woody debris in the waterways. Those benefits include slowing stream flow and creating pools that help increase streambank stability and provide shelter for fish, insects, and other aquatic life.
The document below outlines steps to take in the event a landowner chooses to remove debris from their property.
